Sandhurst Shops Before the supermarket era of the late twentieth century, Sandhurst was well provided with shops of all sorts, owned by individual tradesmen. As the village expanded, numerous people started small local shops in one or two rooms of their houses. Although most of these have now been superseded, and reconverted into private dwellings, a few retain vestiges of their former shop windows. The Sandhurst Historical Society has compiled a comprehensive record of this era.
More recently, in the 1960s and 1970s, parades of purpose-built shops have sprung up in central locations in Sandhurst, College Town and Owlsmoor, and continue to thrive, despite the advent of supermarkets and the gigantic Meadows development for Tesco and Marks and Spencer at the end of the 1980s.
This is just a small part of our information on the many Stores and Shops of Sandhurst. If you need more information on these or any of the other numerous shops and stores please contact us directly. |
