Sandhurst Roads The growth of the Sandhurst road network can be traced through maps over the years. The original through roads started to be supplemented by the minor roads needed for new housing developments, and in the 1980s the original A3095 route to Crowthorne and beyond was replaced by a new spine road during the development of the estates built in the Owlsmoor area.
The new main road serving the Meadows complex was named Marshall Road, to commemorate Lt Col JB Marshall, chairman of the Parish Council 1969-70. The Sandhurst Historical Society has investigated the origins of road names in Sandhurst, and on occasions the Museum Committee has been invited to make suggestions for naming new roads (or, in one case, changing the developers' proposal for an 'Artillery Way', since the name had no reference to any historical fact!).
This is just a small part of our information on the many Roads Sandhurst has developed over the years. If you need more information on these or any of the other roads in Sandhurst please contact us directly. |
