Sandhurst People One of the best-known people of Sandhurst in recent years was Mrs Kitty Dancy. She was chairman of Sandhurst Parish Council from 1966 to 1969, having been a Labour Party supporter throughout her adult life. She was a stalwart member of the Women's Institute and chaired the Sandhurst Museum Committee for several years.
In the wider community, she was a leading member of the Bracknell Development Corporation while the new town was being built, and her public service was recognised by the award of the OBE.
When a new section of the Sandhurst Town Council premises was added, the hall which served as the council chamber was named in her honour as the Kitty Dancy Room.
The museum has started to collect written (or digital) reminiscences of ordinary Sandhurst people, to provide a record of everyday life in earlier days, and show how the quiet village developed into the place we know today.
This is just a small part of our information on some of the prominent members of the Sandhurst community. If you need more information on these or other members of the parish please contact us directly. |
