Sandhurst Churches Sandhurst has had a parish church since 1220. Built on the edge of Windsor Forest, St. Michael's Church served the scattered village for over six centuries until, in 1854 and 1865, it was rebuilt and enlarged to cope with the growing population. Before the end of that century it had been found necessary to open a daughter church (St. Mary's) to provide for the southern end of the parish (College Town). This was demolished recently.
In 1973, the small church of St. George, in Owlsmoor, was transferred from the parish of Crowthorne, and it eventually, in 1985, became the centre of a new parish. The wooden church was later replaced by a substantial brick building.
In the 1860s, local Methodists started to build their own church on Scotland hill. This was superseded by a new church, a short distance away, which was opened in 1906.
1884 saw the opening of a Baptist chapel, on the main road, but it was not until 1954 that the local Roman Catholics, who had been meeting in various buildings, were able to open their own church on the main Yorktown Road.
